My projects are always rooted in video footage or photographs drawn from the real, physical world. I often reimagine the familiar in strange ways—humans appearing as mushrooms, polluted water consumed described as a witch, or discarded medical waste taking shape as a mischievous goblin troll.

Carsten Aniksdal: I work primarily with camera-based techniques — photography and film — as well as spatial sound installations. An everyday moment can have something picturesque about it. Painterly elements of film as a medium can be light, space, depth, structure and colours, but also abstraction and simplification. Nature has also gained a more central place in my artistry through my increasing involvement in the climate and environmental cause.

Elisabeth Mathisen: My work is about nature and interpersonal emotions. Nature and the physical are a common thread in my work.

Sabina Jacobsson: My artistic practice is rooted in the exploration of everyday life situations, where small gestures, moments, and encounters often become the foundation for larger reflections. I am constantly searching for new connections between idea and technique, allowing the spontaneous and unpredictable to interact with the conceptual and structured. This interplay creates a space where experimentation becomes central—not only in film direction but also through analog methods such as drawing, sculpture, and installation. With this as a point of departure, I create works that are at once playful and thoughtful, balancing intuition with critical reflection. As a video artist, I move fluidly between different arenas—the gallery, the theater stage, and the cinema screen—each offering unique possibilities for engaging the viewer. Thematically, my work often addresses cultural connections and social structures. I am drawn to narratives that explore solidarity, identity, and belonging, while also engaging with political issues that shape our shared reality. Through collaborations across disciplines, I have been able to develop a multifaceted expression that allows my works to exist in different contexts, shifting meaning depending on where and how they are experienced.

What does it mean for you to be featured in a collection like the Videokunstarkivet archive? From the pioneering works of the 1960s until today, Norwegian video artists have contributed significantly to the international field, and it is of great importance that this legacy is safeguarded in a professional and sustainable way. At the same time, the archive functions as a living platform for dialogue and exchange. It opens doors for us as artists, enabling connections with curators, researchers, and institutions worldwide. This has created opportunities for new collaborations and international screenings, such as this one with UNITE. In the case of video installations, the work can often envelop the audience, filling the entire space with moving images and soundscapes, turning the act of viewing into a physical and immersive encounter. For me, this connection is not only about storytelling, but also about evoking recognition, curiosity, or even discomfort—emotions that linger and open up for reflection long after the viewing experience.
